Retro 51 Lincoln

Donald Trump and many contemporary American politicians could not hide their support for the American white supremacy movement and their respect to the treasonous Confederate States Army. But for many global citizens, the USA is still symbolised by the real president of the past: Abraham Lincoln.

It is also an American oddity to use their most globally respected president for the least valued money in the US: the 1 cent copper coin with the profile of Abraham Lincoln. Many generations of American started to know Lincold from the 1¢ copper coin.

Retro 51, a small American pen manufacturer, has designed — almost a decade ago — a series of fountain pens named after the US founding fathers and presidents: Franklin, Jefferson, Monroe, and Lincoln. The Lincoln pen was designed with antiqued finish, a monotone copper colour that is reminiscent of the 1¢ coin, but finished off with a lacquer coating for a smooth touch. Luckily, the German-made nib made this pen reliable and comfortable to use.

Abraham Lincoln (12 February 1809 – 15 April 1865) was an American statesman who served as the 16th USA president (1861 – 1865). Lincoln led the nation through its greatest moral, constitutional, and political crisis in the American Civil War. He succeeded in preserving the Union, abolishing slavery, bolstering the federal government, and modernising the U.S. economy.
