Soennecken

After writing about Nietzsche, now it is the time to write about the pen Nietzsche used to admire: Soennecken.

As a company, Soennecken was founded in 1875 by Friedrich Soennecken, a German inventor, and businessman. Soennecken was primarily known for their stationery products and were one of the leading manufacturers of writing instruments in Europe.

The Soennecken fountain pen was introduced in the 1920s. It surely means that the pen belonged to Nietzsche was an older version of the pen. Soennecken fountain pen was designed to be a high-quality writing instrument that was easy to use and had a durable design. The pen featured a piston filler mechanism that allowed for easy refilling of ink and a gold nib that provided a smooth writing experience. The Soennecken pen was designed to compete with other high-end fountain pens of the time, such as the Montblanc and Parker pens.

The Soennecken pen became popular among writers, artists, and professionals in Europe during the 1920s and 1930s. It was considered a luxury item and was often used as a status symbol. The pen was also used by many famous writers and artists of the time, including Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Picasso.

During World War II, the production of the Soennecken pen was halted due to the war effort. After the war, the company resumed production, but the popularity of fountain pens began to decline with the introduction of ballpoint pens in the 1950s and 1960s. Soennecken struggled to keep up with the changing market and eventually stopped producing fountain pens in the 1970s.

Today, Soennecken is still in operation as a provider of office supplies and stationery products in Germany. The company has a long history and is known for its high-quality products, including pens and other writing instruments. While the Soennecken pen is no longer in production, it remains a part of the company’s history and is still valued by collectors and enthusiasts of vintage fountain pens.
